Bringing Alive St Austell's Famous Faces

We were commissioned by Cornwall Council, previously Restormel Council to produce a large wall mural celebrating St Austell's historical figures of present and by-gone ages. The mural was produced to dress the large gable end building at the corner of Trinity Street and Truro Road which is situated directly opposite to the centre of St Austell's brand new White River Place shopping arcade.

The painting produced by world renowned Trompe L’oeil artist Janet Shearer depicts many famous faces of local history situated at a fictional "China Café". The original painting which was produced at a quarter scale was professionally photographed and scaled up to dress the building measuring 10 metres x 9.5 metres.

The decision was taken to produce a series of aluminium sheets with digitally printed and protected vinyl applied for longevity and hard wearing nature. The artwork was all printed, manufactured and applied in-house and was erected by our own installers to coincide with the new town centre official opening on 29th October 2009.
