PARC SIGNS: HOME / CASE STUDIES /
The devastating floods on the 16th August 2004 caused the complete demolition of the existing Visitor Centre which had seen over 1 million visitors through its doors since it was first opened. December 2006 brought about the opening of the new re-located centre just off the harbour at Boscastle.
Working closely with North Cornwall District Councils Coast and Countryside Design team, Parc Signs were commissioned to create the complete interior re-fit of the centre. The initial design ideas realised by Heulyn and Ginny Lewis of NCDC where brought to us and we were given the challenge of turning their ideas into finished working designs.
The visitors centre interpretive displays were all constructed around 10mm thick acrylic with the printed displays reverse mounted to the rear. Panels were supported by an internal framework and finished with decorative aluminium mounting studs. The main feature of the displays were the impressive 160mm deep solid oak wood desks with internal display cases – lit via LED and some containing scent smelling vents.
We created free standing triangular displays again in acrylic with Oak desks, one of which housed a LCD monitor and DVD to play news footage of the Boscastle Floods.
Other works included the Sales centre – Oakwood slat walling and free standing, mobile sales units. Large Oak wood counter area with LED highlighting. Computer internet desk and we also converted some old oak distilling barrels into LED lit display units to hold artefacts.
We also created a semi circular children’s interactive display. Solid oak wood slating and oak worktops with blackboard area and space for children’s games.
Parc Signs also sourced and installed all the lighting within the centre, stainless steel decorative light fittings were mounted to the displays and we also created a bespoke acrylic ceiling track light over the counter area.
The project was challenging and encompassed our full remit of resources. The finished job is very impressive and we are very proud of our achievements. Please take a look for yourself.
