Minions Heritage Centre

Back in 2006 Cornwall's historic mining landscapes were granted World Heritage Site status putting them on a par with international treasures such as Stonehenge.  Minions is situated in one of 10 areas which make up the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site and its Heritage Centre had remained unchanged since 1992.  The new exhibition we have delivered is part of the Discover the Extraordinary Project, an RDPE (Rural Development Fund for England) funded project which will enhance the visitor experience in the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site and at partner attractions.

Working in partnership with Auckett Brockliss Guy Design we set about designing a whole new interpretation scheme working in conjunction with Cornwall Council and The Caradon Hill Area Heritage Project (CHAHP).  The project involved removing the existing out dated exhibit, re-wiring the centre and even the removal of a lift from the site all whilst working on the designs for the new installation.  Working alongside  ABG meant that we were able to think about the design of the hardware and manufacture whilst they used their expertise to design the graphic content and illustration of the panels.

In keeping with our ethos to source as much as possible within the local area we set to work on designs incorporating  locally sourced materials and the reusing of materials where relevant.  Another major consideration was ensuring that the interpretation was designed and implemented in a way to maximise access and enabling visitors to gain maximum benefit from their engagement.

Working within the set budget, attending regular site meetings and ensuring that the project was delivered on time to our high standards kept us busy right up until final handover.  From the lighting, flooring and furniture to the interpretation panels all of the team at Parc Signs were involved in this project.  We are proud to have refurbished this Heritage Centre, rejuvenating interest in the beautiful surrounding landscape and its history.
